The Haute Initiative and the new terrehaute.com celebrated its first month over the weekend. A lot has happened in our first four weeks.
In that time, we've: • rolled out the community information website (feel free to explore while you’re here) and are still hard at work behind the scenes to improve & refine it.
• released three episodes of the video series The Haute (if you haven’t seen them yet, you can check them out on The Show page). We've already had more than 142,000 views for the three episodes!
• formed partnerships with others in our community organizations who have rallied in support of this initiative and helped it get off the ground. They include: Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau, Terre Haute Economic Development Corp., Indiana State University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Terre Haute Savings Bank, Thompson-Thrift & the Vigo County Public Library.
And we’re continuing to do what we can to share the best-kept secret that there’s more to Terre Haute/Vigo County than meets the eye. We’ve got so many great people and organizations in our community doing outstanding work, and our goal is to shed a little light on that work our neighbors are so passionately carrying out.
So what’s in store for The Haute in the coming months?
Over the next weeks you’ll begin seeing articles from various community leaders in this space. It’s important that we hear from them — get a clearer picture of their thoughts, their heart, their concerns and their aspirations for the community they serve, the community we share and call home.
We're excited about our partnership with Rachael Brown and Haute Happenings, who specializes in ideas for activities, events and things to do in Terre Haute with kids and families. Keep an eye on this space on Fridays as Rachael contributes columns on fun local events & activities to enjoy for the weekend.
Also, stay updated with our Community Calendar, a surprisingly challenging nut to crack. Every community needs one, but what kinds of events should be included? How much info? How thorough? How streamlined? How easy can we make it for people to find & access info on the events they’re most interested in? We’re working on it. Look for improvements to come.
And we’re still working to develop other areas of the site (once you start navigating, you’ll find there's a lot to explore!).
terrehaute.com is OUR (you included!) shared community website, and your constructive input is welcome. We love feedback. Feel free to send an email to let us know what you like about the site, what you don’t like, what we’re doing and what we’re not doing but should be. We want to make this site the very best that it can possibly be for our community, its citizens and its assets.
On The Show front, we’ve got several fun, informational episodes in the works. Our next episode comes out this Friday. Be sure to Subscribe to our YouTube channel, Like our Facebook page or Follow our Twitter feed to keep up in the loop on all our latest releases. And again, you can always check out all our episodes on The Show page here.
We're excited about the projects we’re working on and about what’s happening here, and look forward to what the future holds in store for us as a community. Sure, Terre Haute has had its share of setbacks and circumstances aren’t ideal — they rarely are. But we still have so many great things happening and such untapped potential, we’re bound to make it through OK. I’ll wager we'll come out stronger than ever, as long as we each continue to do our part to make our own little corner of the world a better place to live, work, play and thrive.
